This volume presents a detailed study of the life of the Khmer people who lived at Angkor and in the surrounding countryside. The author, Madeleine Giteau, is a well-known French art historian and epigrapher who served for many years as the chief curator of the National Museum of Phnom Penh, Cambodia prior to the rise of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge.
