Otto Planding [1898-1974] was born in Germany in 1887. He studied at the Munich Academy of Art, before immigrating to Canada in around 1912-1913.
While in Canada, he supporting himself exclusively by painting. Otto lived humbly in Toronto, where he maintained a studio behind Haynes Gallery, on Yonge Street but he spent much of his time painting in Northern Ontario.
Known today as a prominent painter who captured the beauty of the northern countryside. Georgian Bay, the Muskokas, the Rockies were some of his favourite areas to paint and capture with his brush.
