Mary Evelyn Wrinch [1878-1969] was born in Kirby-le-Soken, Essex, England in 1878 and immigrated to Toronto in 1885. She began her art education at the Central Ontario School of Art where she studied under Robert Holmes, Laura Muntz, and G. A. Reid (married 1922). Upon graduating she travelled to London England to study under Walter Donne and Alyn Williams at the Grosvenor School of Art. From there she moved on to the Art Students' League in New York where she learned the art of miniature painting under Alice Beckington. In 1918 she was elected as an associate of the Royal Canadian Academy, and was also a member of the American Society of Miniature Painters, The Ontario Society of Artists (Vice President in 1924), the Society of Canadian Painter-Etchers and Engravers, the Canadian Society of Graphic Art, the Women's Art Association of Canada, and the Canadian Handicrafts Guild. In 1928 she stopped painting and turned to concentrate on woodcuts and linocuts in 1928. She is represented several Canadian collection including the Art Gallery of Ontario, the National Gallery of Canada, Art Gallery of Hamilton and the Art Gallery of Windsor.
