original colour (old repair to centre fold split, dampstaining to upper margins, some foxing & several ink stains).
Published by Homann Heirs, the Americae Mappa generalis included information from the Paris Academy of Sciences and other recent sources. The mapping of the west coast of America shows Quivira, Nova Albion and ‘Aditus detectus par Martin d’Aguilar’. New France and Louisiana are mapped as large territories. British interests in the Arctic and the east coast from Carolina to Newfoundland are shown as narrow strips. The cartouche is decorated with volcanoes, flora, fauna and four inhabitants of the Americas.
