     First Edition. The author carried out many surveys and explorations in the Canadian West between 1875 and 1898, notably in the Mackenzie River and Yukon districts. He was in the Yukon at the time of the Gold Rush of 1898, and from 1898 to 1901 was commissioner of the Yukon for the Dominion government.
