This is a guide to the wide variety of weaves produced by the Baluchi tribes of the Middle East. Scattered across Turkmenistan, Iran, Afganistan and Pakistan, the Baluchi are a largely nomadic or semi-nomadic people. The text provides a brief summary of the history of the Baluchi together with an overview of their woven products. This covers the different regions where the weaves are found as well as discussing the varieties of design, function and dye. Illustrated examples, taken from a private collection, show a range of distinct types of weaving, including rugs, pillows and bags. Each coloured plate is accompanied by a description that examines the design and manufacture of the weave as well as providing a technical analysis.
