William Lee Hankey [British, 1869-1952] was a painter, illustrator and etcher of landscapes, figure subjects, and harbour scenes. Hankey was born in Chester in 1869. He studied at Chester School of Art, Royal College of Art and in Paris. Hankey served with the Artists Rifles during World War One.
Hankey was married twice. In 1896, he married fellow artist Mable Emily Hobson (thereafter commonly known as Mabel Lee Hankey or Mabel Emily Hankey). Hankey then married Edith Mary Garner, also an artist.
