The Haida, in carving argillite, have given us their 'history' through a continuous creative expression over a period of 180 years. Argillite carvings tell us of the Haidas' experiences as a people, of their values and ideology. The objects speak of the flourishing of a society and then its ghastly destruction; the tenuity of survival and then the proud determination to be and remain Haida.
