Following the Second World War, reports from medical survey parties in the north persuaded the Canadian government that tuberculosis was becoming an epidemic in the Arctic. In response, thousands of Indigenous people were evacuated from the northern homes to hospitals in cities such as Edmonton, Winnipeg and Hamilton. More than one thousand Inuit and Cree patients were eventually removed from the Eastern Arctic and taken to Hamilton's Mountain Sanatorium for treatment. Cultural historian Shawn Selway  thoroughly investigates this history in Nobody Here Will Harm You.
