From the Centre: The Drawings of Luke Anguhadluq is the result of extensive research by the exhibition curator, Cynthia Cook, into the life and work of one of Canada's foremost artists. Luke was born in 1895 near Chantrey Inlet into a group of Inuit known as the Utkuhikhalingmiut. A great hunter and leader in his community, Luke was forced to move his people to Baker Lake in 1959 due to a famine brought on by a change in the Caribou migration. He took up a new calling at this time - art. Many of his drawings were used to make prints that circulated across Canada and around the world.
