Thomas Albert Stone [Canadian, 1897-1978] was born in Fawnhope Hertford, England, November 14th, 1894. Came to Canada in 1914, lived in Edmonton, Vancouver, and Alton (Ontario). Studied at the Vancouver Art School and the Ontario College of Art [1921-25]. A member of the Ontario Society of Artists, 1931. Travelled in Italy, France, and Switzerland, from 1927-29. Won the Governor General's Medal at the OCA Annual Exhibition. After serving in World War I returned to Vancouver and in 1921 moved to Toronto. Participated in, or was given numerous exhibitions including: in Brampton, at the Welland Museum and Art Gallery, at Eaton's Fine Art Gallery, Toronto, etc. Showed with the Group of Seven in the "Invited Contributors" section of their exhibition, May 1926. A graphic artist, printmaker, and painter of mainly Canadian landscapes. He has work in the Art Gallery of Ontario, The National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, The Quebec Museum of Fine Arts, The Winnipeg Art Gallery, and in numerous public and private collections in Canada.
