Fresh out of a Vancouver art college, Molly Lamb Bobak jointed the Canadian Women's Army Corps in 1942. She chronicled her wartime service in an illustrated newspaper-style diary - replete with hilarious illustrations of a trip to New York and stories of her close friendship with an old family friend, A.Y. Jackson. He described her drawings as "very real stuff.  The army from the inside as only a girl could see it... If only she had half a chance she could go places."

Eventually Lance-Corporal Lamb's single-minded determination paid off and she became Canada's first woman war artist.
